Hawaii Mermaid Underwater Portraits with Seaquest Hawaii
Hawaii Mermaid Portraits with Seaquest Hawaii
I went out with a group from Holo Holo Staycation Meetup Group on Seaquest Hawaii South Kona Expedition. I brought along my mermaid friend Tiana. Tiana has so many creative talents including designing and creating her very own mermaid tail. Having a mermaid along was an unexpected surprise to the guest and crew aboard.
Our first stop was Honaunau Bay also called 2 step which is a popular snorkel and diving spot on the island. It’s also adjacent to a sacred Hawaiian site known as the place of refuge a historical site which granted absolution to those who broke a kapu (ancient Hawaiian laws). I can’t help but wonder if any of the snorkelers or divers not with our group were started by the site of a mermaid.
Our next stop was a spot only accessible by boat called Rob’s Reef; a series of lava caves ready for exploring. The water and caves provided beautiful lighting and dramatic rock formations below the surface. It was the perfect backdrop for shooting a mermaid.
Our third stop was Kealakekau Bay (the pathway of the gods in Hawaiian) also home to Captain Cook monument where Captain Cook was unfortunately killed. Kealekakua Bay is a very popular snorkel spot and nature preserve with abundant underwater life. Captain Mike from Seaquest was a trooper and tried on an extra mermaid tail I brought and posed for a few underwater shots.
I big mahalo to Manu from Seaquest for setting up our adventure, Captains Mike & Kevin for their knowledge and patience and of course my beautiful mermaid model Tiana.
