In 2010 I picked up my first DSLR camera to capture my daughter’s karate tournaments. From that moment I was hooked. I spent the next several years learning nearly every genre of photography. Although I’m mostly self-taught I have had the opportunity to attend numerous live workshops from Joe McNally, Lindsay Adler, Roberto Valenzuela, Frank Dorhoff, Kalyee Greer, Tim Wallace, and Joel Grimes.
My diverse learning path has helped me develop my own unique style. I still enjoy experimenting with new ideas and lighting styles. I use natural and studio lighting to create dramatic and dynamic images. I specialize in headshots and fine art, lifestyle portraits. My goal is to make every photoshoot a comfortable and enjoyable experience while capturing beautiful and unique images.
Until 2016 I worked as a 911 dispatcher and crisis negotiator. Photography was my stress relief and creative outlet. On May 18th, 2016, I retired after 26 years of service. I now live and work on The Big Island of Hawaii. Hawaii Island is not only beautiful but also one of the most diverse places on earth. From beautiful beaches and shorelines, tropical rainforest, rolling hills, snowcapped mountains above the clouds and of course one of the world’s most active volcanoes Kilauea.
Shortly after moving to Hawaii I became the Meetup organizer for Big Island Photographers & Models. It's been awesome getting to meet and network with new photographers and models.
In July of 2017, I became a Certified Professional Photographer with the Professional Photographers of America. Studying for the CPP exam was a great learning experience for me. It forced me to learn and focus on important image-making skills. I am currently the only CPP on Hawaii Island.
My new love of underwater photography inspired me to become certified as a PADI Underwater Photographer. Living in Hawaii has given me the opportunity to photograph beautiful people in new and creative ways.
I specialize in Hawaiian beach portraits, underwater portraits, and professional headshots.
